The Dragon may be a ghost town during these cold winter months, as are many race tracks across the US. However, one track in particular is busy every weekend and many week days during the winter as amateur and pro racers flock to a warmer climate to test for the next season. The track is Jennings GP in Jennings, Florida (the site of the Yamaha R6 explosion from a previous article). Below, 2009 Racing Youth Rider of the Year, 2009 USGPRU 125GP National Champion, 2009 AMA 125GP National Champion Jake Lewis takes his Honda CBR 600RR through turn 1 at Jennings. While the lap record, set by Larry Pegram on a works Ducati, is a staggering 1:13 around this 2 mile, 14 turn track, young Jake at just 14 years old managed 1:19's on his 600. Not only was this his first visit to Jennings GP, it was only his third time on a 600. Jake is still too young to race any of the AMA Pro classes, so he will be racing WERA Expert next year in the Mid-Central region (against US 129 Photos racer Jared Barnes).
