....and catch on fire! Reports from the nearest corner marshal say that this bike was airborne for more than 75' (and the debris also suggest this), landed on its tank ripping off the tank sliders, and immediately burst into flames. You can see the rider running towards the fiery wreck, fire extinguisher in hand in a feeble attempt to quell the blaze.
Circulating around Jennings GP in Jennings, Florida in mid-winter is no easy feat. This motorcycle-only racetrack is the go-to spot for off-season testing for amateurs and pros alike. At a recent trackday with Sportbike Track Time I looked up from my conversation in the paddock to see this 12 foot fire blazing from the quickly decaying remnants of a 2007 Yamaha R6. These motorcycles are so notorious for rupturing gas tanks and catching fire, thatWERA requires tank sliders on this bike in order to race it. The pilot of this pile, Jesse Beeker, had said sliders. Unfortunately, the force of the impact was too great for such a modification. Turn 2, where Beeker fell off, is well into the triple digit speeds.
